Raisin the Dead A Bread and Batter Mystery Book 2 edition by Karoline Barrett Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks

The author of Bun for Your Life returns to Destiny, New York, where bakery owners and amateur sleuths Molly Tyler and Olivia Williams never crumble under pressure...
While the rest of Destiny is focused on the arrival of an upper crust perfume mogul, Molly is more concerned about what’s on the front page of the newspaper her mother. Library director Anne Tyler was photographed at the most romantic restaurant in town having a cozy dinner with library advisory board member Philip Baldelli. But there’s more for Molly to worry about after Philip is found dead a few days later.
When Detective Sean Corsino zeroes in on Anne as a person of interest in the case, it turns down the heat on his budding romance with Molly. But after he’s injured during the course of his investigation, Molly and Olivia must step in to sift through the clues and clear Anne’s name.
Raisin the Dead A Bread and Batter Mystery Book 2 edition by Karoline Barrett Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks
We are back in Destiny with Bread and Bagel owner, Molly Tyler and her mother is causing quite the scandal on the front page of the local newspaper with a mystery man. So goes the gossip of a small-town paper and how this quickly turns bad for Annie Tyler when the man, Philip Baldelli, is found dead and she becomes the main person of interest in his murder. The investigation focuses on a squabble over the library’s wanting to expand and the fact that the newly engaged Mr. Baldelli had been caught in the middle having said he would donate the money for said expansion. With people on both sides of the issue, the list of people involved in his murder is numerous. When his niece, perfume mogul, Serefina Alessi, that of whom he never had a relationship with, comes to town; another suspect gets added to the list.
Once again, Molly goes in head first searching for the true killer to clear the innocent. She forms a group of amateur detectives from her monthly book club that don the name, “The Destiny Divas” to help Serefina and Mrs Tyler clear their names in the murder of Philip Baldelli. As they dig deeper, they begin to realize that the issue causing the murder is much deeper than money, the library and family.
If not to add injury to insult, Molly’s new boyfriend, Detective Sean Corsino’s ex-sister-in-law comes to town trying to win him over by impersonating his dead former wife after he is involved in a work related accident.
Molly eventually solves the death of Mr. Baldelli, but the road to that is paved with nothing but a path of crazy. That is the best way I can honestly describe it. Once you read this story, it might make you start questioning the people you know in your small town no matter how long you’ve known them. Now, that’s the mark of a good author. She got in my head and made me relate the characters to some of the people I have come across in my town, scratch my head and rethink how much I really know them. Who knew a small-town library could have so much drama?
There was never a moment in Raisin the Dead where I was bored. Karoline never let the story lag or drag, which made for an enjoyable read. I loved seeing Molly grow in her relationship with Sean, her mother and her friends. This book really surprised me. I expected to like it, but not to fall in love with Destiny like I did this time. I am now sold out to this community and it’s characters. Time to find me an apartment there.

Raisin the Dead A Bread and Batter Mystery Book 2 edition by Karoline Barrett Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
I enjoyed this book. When a man turns up dead and eyes turn to Molly's mom who was seen arguing with him, Molly has to help clear her name, especially when Sean is seriously injured. If that isn't enough someone from Sean's past appears and is causing problems.
My only problem with this book was Molly's attitude while investigating with the police. She seems to feel that they should be reporting to her. At one point she asks if the kept a piece of evidence, this bothered me but that is just a quirk of mine, otherwise I like her well enough. I love Sean and his sense of humor. I adore Dottie, I want a Dottie in my life. I like the relationship Molly has with her parents, and I was happy when Sean's family appeared that they were likable also. I actually hope that we see more of Serafina. The mystery was excellent although I had the who fairly early, the why I had wrong. A fun read with fun characters, I will continue on with this series.
Molly finds her mother embroiled in a controversy at work. Anne is working hard to expand the library and some of the townspeople are dead set against the idea. Things begin taking a turn when Anne is picture in the local paper having dinner with a library board member in a romantic restaurant. This leads to speculation when that board member, Philip Baldelli is found dead in his home only a few days later. While Molly’s attention is focused on her family a famous perfume mogul is visiting the town. She causes quite a stir as she is driven around town in her expensive pink car. This woman soon comes under scrutiny when the locals discover she is the niece of the decedent. Once it is discovered that the death of Philip Baldelli was suspicious, and Molly’s detective boyfriend seems to focus his attention on Anne. Sean is severely injured on the job and Molly and her friend Olivia take over the investigation on their own. Molly must prove her mother is innocent.
I love this series and can’t wait for the next book. The characters are well-developed and easy to imagine as real people. The setting is like many small towns I am familiar with in which it seems everyone knows everyone else’s business. There are no lulls in the plot and you don’t want to set the book () down for a minute. If you haven’t read the first book you can pick up here without trouble, but I recommend the first book. It is also a fun read.
I have a confession to make.... I read this book slowly. After I read Bun for Your Life which is the first book in this series by Karoline Barrett I knew I never wanted to leave Destiny. So when Raisin the Dead came along, I took my time.
There is so much to love about this series. You have Molly who is co-owner of a bakery with one of her best friends, Olivia. Her other best friend, Emily, owns a bookstore next store. Molly is dating Sean, the hunky detective in town. Her parents are still happily married and her mom is the Director at the library.
Molly has a nice apartment in an old Victorian house and her landlady, Dottie, is a nice old lady who is like a grandmother to her, right down to homemade cookies. And the other tenant in the house just happens to be the hunky detective !!!
I mean seriously.... Why wouldn't you want to live there ??
Okay maybe there is a murder that puts Molly's mom at the top of the list of suspects. And, of course, Molly cannot just sit quietly and wait for Sean to do his job questioning her mother when the "real" murderer is still out there. So with the help of her reluctantly friends and one eager employee, she sets out to solve the case.
You really must put this series on your TBR list and if you read them slowly that is okay. Destiny is such a great small town that you will fall in love with it and not want to leave either !!!
On a side note to the author..... Karoline PLEASE rush me the 3rd book when it is out. I miss Destiny already.
